Hello, all! It is a thoroughly dreary day outside today, which makes me want to do zero things, but unfortunately, life demands that I do at least a few. This is not likely to be the most loquacious newsletter (don't worry; I'll make up for it later), but there are a few little updates that I wanted to share with you before too much more time passed.
First of all, if you're located here in Nashville or the surrounding areas, I'd love to see you this Friday night at Bound Booksellers in Franklin! Bound is typically a children's bookstore, but they make exceptions every now and again for some adult books, and this is one of those exceptions.
I'll be joining forces with my friends Meredith R. Lyons and R.J. Jacobs, both Nashville authors who recently released pulse-pounding books of their own. We'll be chatting about our books and answering questions from attendees, while also enjoying wines from Saint Goose selected specifically by Karissa of Tropes & Tasting Notes to pair with our books. I expect this to be pretty casual and a lot of fun, and at the end of the night we'll even draw one lucky winner who will receive signed copies of all three books!
Tickets are $35 and include admission for you and a guest, a book of your choice by one of us, delicious wine, and an entry into the raffle. Grab your spot now!
(Below is a video we recorded to promote this event; you can see we all take ourselves extremely seriously.)
I mean, the heading says it all, right? Yes, Barnes & Noble is currently running a promotion on all preordered books, offering 25% off your entire preorder purchase with code PREORDER25. Now, this is technically only for B&N members; however, you can sign up to be a Rewards member for free (if you go for their paid "Premium" membership, you'll save another 10%). So if you haven't preordered your copy of You Shouldn't Be Here yet, now's a great time to do so, while also saving a few bucks!
A few days ago, I was informed by the organizers of Cavalcade of Authors West that due to unforeseen circumstances, they've had to reschedule their teen writer conference, for which I have been invited to participate as a member of the faculty. Originally, COA was scheduled for the first weekend in March, but it will now take place during the first weekend in May. Fortunately, I should still be able to attend, and look forward to working with with all the talented teen writers who will be there!
If you've never taken a peek at my website, now's the time, because I just updated it. Lots of it remains more or less the same, but I have reorganized some things, moved some others, and just generally tried to make it a bit more user-friendly. One of the biggest changes is that I finally revamped my FAQs to be better organized and to include more information about You Shouldn't Be Here. Feel free to poke around in there and let me know if there's any other information you think I should include!
I also took the advice of another savvy author on social media and ditched my Linktree in favor of a landing page on my website that has all of my important links all in one handy dandy place. Why? Well, with how volatile social media has been lately, and how various platforms seem to be fine one day and go up in flames the next, it just seems to make more sense to put as much as I can in a space that I control.
Plus, I actually think that the landing page is easier to parse than the Linktree ever was. I like being able to organize the information visually instead of just having it all in one long list. That said, I am absolutely open to suggestions if you think there's something I'm missing or should change. The beauty of having my own site is that I can tweak it whenever I want!
Okay, that's it for now! The next newsletter will be more exciting; I've got lots of things I want to talk about! Just not today, when the world is gray and rainy and gross. Today, I'm going to go light a fire in the fireplace, put on an audiobook (currently listening to Patrick Stewart's Making It So, narrated by Sir Patrick himself, and it is exactly as delightful as you'd expect), and maybe even make some hot chocolate.
How do you like to spend dreary winter days? And what are you reading right now?
You've found me! I'm Lauren, and I write speculative novels for teens and adults, along with the occasional freelance pop culture article (my bylines include TheWrap, Parade, and Vulture, among other major entertainment industry publications). Here you will find book and event updates, exclusive sneak peeks and behind-the-scenes trivia (and even the occasional giveaway!), writing advice, pop culture recommendations, and general musings about whatever is currently occupying my brain. Welcome!
Happy holidays to all, no matter what you're observing (including "surviving 2024," which is a valid thing to celebrate)! So it's nearly the end of the year, which really sneaked up on me despite me being present and conscious on all the days leading here. If anything, I'd say I was overly conscious! There were plenty of days I would love to have skipped entirely, yet I remained persistently awake and aware. Rude, honestly. I'm sending this newsletter out on both my current platform and on...
(How many of you even remember the song that I used as the subject here? Do I even want to know the answer to that?) Happy September! By now, most kids are likely back in school, temperatures are (finally) starting to dip just a bit, and some people are already excitedly digging all their spooky season decor out of storage. Here in the south, schools have been back in session for a month, but I grew up in Pennsylvania starting after Labor Day, so I'm sending a virtual high five to all the...
Y'all, I was going to make this an updates-only newsletter, because I have a bunch of them, and I'm behind on everything (it's summer, which means everything is moving slower, but also I have a kid starting college in a month and a book coming out in a few weeks, which means that everything is also moving at the speed of light). But, well, now I have something I want to talk about after all, despite having no time to do so, so we're going to do that instead. But first, the updates Instead of...
